I posted these images Spring 2008 when I was cynical about the outcome of the election in November. I was fearful of another hyjack of election results and the rivalries within the Democratic party. Two million people assembled Tuesday to witness President Obama's inauguration. The day passed without a single report of unrest by the Washingon, D.C. police. Two million people, more than the entire population of most American cities, peaceably assembled for this occasion. Written in stone or with tape on a truck the writing of these images remain incomplete.

I have lived through many meanings of my country and it's representation in symbols. For some of you, you might recall the flag burning controversy in the early 1990s culture wars. And for those of you who lived in NYC the flag was a ubiquitous symbol in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Center. Dark times ensued, torture became a matter of discussed policy, corruption flourished in the government with decisive secrecy. What I want to show you is a country that has rejected these policies and regained its symbols, under new leadership.
